The photobook I made to document my time in Ireland, 2008

A Creative Life by Jen Merritt

You may not know it, but I have dreams of being a globe-trotter. I have started working to this goal, but according to the ‘Where I’ve Been’ application on Facebook, I’ve only been to 4% of the world. Time to do more traveling! And this is something I do plan to do. As of this coming Autumn (2010), I will be relocating to The Big Smoke, as it is affectionately referred to by residents. For those of us not in the know, that’s Merry Old London, England. I have been working on my relocation paperwork (piles and piles worth!) and have been following blogs of other professional ex-pats currently enjoying their residence across the pond.

What does this have to do with books? Patience, readers – I will relate it back.

In 2008 I spent two months in Ireland, and being a bit of a shutterbug, had plenty of photos upon my return. Were they destined to sit – quietly, digitally – in online? I thought it not a good idea, especially when I have many older people in my life that aren’t able to access information on the internet. In my research, I came across an interesting concept – the photobook. It seemed the perfect solution to my conundrum… I wouldn’t have to print out every single (and I’m talking hundreds) photo (minimum 19c each), I wouldn’t have to buy an album (20$ minimum for a nice one), and I wouldn’t have to sit over the album for hours inserting photos into plastic sleeves and figuring out how to write a caption for each. Instead I used Blurb to put together a nice collection of my time overseas. I loved it! It was easy, fast, and I had full control over the appearance of the final project. The best part was that I had a coupon that took 10$ off the book, so it only cost 36$ US. It would have cost at least 60$ to put together a photo album. You can take a peek at this book if you’d like to see how it will look – the photo quality is impeccable and I highly recommend this as a way to document the important things in your life.

I liked it so much, in fact, that I have put together an additional five books, and even convinced a co-worker to use Blurb for her wedding photo album (which turned out beautiful). Don’t believe me? Give it a try.

To help you out, I’ve come across two Blurb coupons that I have shared below.
